Thu Mar 13 20:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Paramount+ Renews Hit Western Drama “Landman” for Season 2
**Los Angeles, CA** – Paramount+ has announced the renewal of its critically acclaimed western drama series, “Landman,” for a second season. The news comes on the heels of a highly successful first season, which debuted in November and concluded in January. The show, starring Billy Bob Thornton, achieved significant viewership milestones for the streaming service, including the most-watched global premiere and finale in Paramount+ history.
“Landman,” created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, explores the world of West Texas oil fields, offering a “roughnecks and wildcat billionaires” narrative that tackles themes of individualism, ambition, and the societal impact of energy production and climate change. The series’ success contributed to Paramount+ securing the #2 spot among SVOD services for original hours watched in Q4 2024. Nielsen data further solidified its popularity, ranking “Landman” No. 8 on the top 10 chart for all SVOD originals during the same period.
Billy Bob Thornton’s performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series. The impressive ensemble cast also includes Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and Demi Moore.
“‘Landman’ was one of the biggest shows of the year,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, attributing its success to Sheridan’s ability to capture “the cultural zeitgeist” through its Neo-western themes.
Based on the “Boomtown” podcast from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, “Landman” is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions. Production on Season 2 is expected to begin soon.
