Thu Mar 13 18:51:52 UTC 2025: ## Rail Safety Concerns Rise After Sabotage Attempts in Kerala
**Kozhikode, March 14, 2025** – The Confederation of All India Rail Users Association (CAIRUA) has urged the Kerala State government and police to increase surveillance along railway tracks following a recent rise in sabotage attempts and suicides. Two near-miss incidents in Kozhikode and Thrissur districts, involving hazardous objects placed on the tracks, have heightened safety concerns among railway employees and passengers.
CAIRUA officials warn that the consequences could have been catastrophic had the trains been traveling at full speed. They advocate for intensified day and night patrols, supported by a dedicated security team.
While previous efforts to strengthen local surveillance committees with the help of residents’ associations showed initial promise, these initiatives reportedly stalled due to a lack of follow-up. A former RPF officer suggests improving CCTV surveillance in vulnerable areas as a more effective solution, proposing that the Railways allocate funds for this purpose in their annual budget. The call for enhanced security comes as a response to the growing threat to railway safety in the region.
