Wed Mar 12 18:58:39 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Police Consider Cancelling Train Passes for Stone-Throwing Students
**Chennai, March 13, 2025** – The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Chennai is considering cancelling train passes for college students involved in stone-throwing and disruptive behavior on suburban trains. This follows a meeting between GRP officials and police inspectors, prompted by escalating clashes between students vying for control of certain train routes.
According to a senior GRP official, the Beach-Arakkonam section, frequented by Presidency College students, and the Moore Market complex suburban section, where Pachaiyappa College students are causing problems, are particular trouble spots. The meeting points of suburban trains from Annanur and Thirumullaivoyal stations are also identified as high-risk areas.
GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are currently deployed in shifts to manage the situation. In addition to exploring the pass cancellation option, the GRP is working with college administrations to discipline identified offenders and is conducting awareness programs to curb violent behavior among students.
