**Mumbai, March 12, 2025** – Mumbai police issued a strict advisory today outlining rules and restrictions for Holi celebrations from March 12th to 18th. The advisory aims to prevent incidents of communal tension and maintain public order.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Akbar Pathan, stated that citizens are prohibited from throwing colours on unwilling pedestrians, and singing obscene songs or making offensive utterances in public. Further restrictions include the use of offensive gestures, pictures, symbols, or placards, and the throwing of water balloons.
Violation of these restrictions will be punishable under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The advisory comes as Mumbai celebrates the festival of Holi.
