Mon Mar 10 18:38:23 UTC 2025: ## X Platform Suffers Massive Cyberattack, Elon Musk Suggests State-Sponsored Involvement

**San Francisco, March 10, 2025** – X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant cyberattack on Monday, resulting in three separate outages throughout the day, each lasting approximately an hour. X owner Elon Musk took to the platform to announce the attack, suggesting the scale and sophistication point towards a large, coordinated group or even a nation-state actor.

“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X,” Musk tweeted. “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing…”

Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, corroborated Musk’s claims, registering three distinct peaks in user-reported issues. The most significant disruption occurred around 3:00 PM, with nearly 2,200 reports, predominantly from Indian users. Further outages were reported at 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Downdetector data indicated that approximately 52% of the reported problems were website-related, 41% app-related, and 8% stemmed from server connection issues.

While X is frequently targeted, Musk’s statement highlights the severity of Monday’s attack, indicating a level of resource commitment beyond typical cybercriminal activity. The ongoing investigation into the attack’s origin and extent is underway. The incident comes after Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the platform in 2022, a year which also saw him achieve the milestone of 200 million followers on X.
