Sun Mar 09 10:30:00 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Delays Cricket Central Contracts, Eyeing Champions Trophy Performance

**Mumbai, India** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delayed the announcement of its annual central contracts for national cricket players, pending the outcome of the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand. The contracts, usually announced in February, are being held up as the BCCI assesses player performances in the tournament.

This year’s delay is particularly significant as it affects the coveted A+ grade, currently held by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja. With Sharma, Kohli, and Jadeja having retired from T20Is and experiencing a less-than-stellar Test season, their A+ status is under review. A strong performance in the Champions Trophy could influence the BCCI’s decision.

A source within the BCCI, quoted by The Times of India, stated that Rohit Sharma’s potential retirement after the Champions Trophy will be a key factor in the decision-making process. However, his recent T20 World Cup victory and leadership in the Champions Trophy are also being considered.

Last year’s contract announcements saw Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan lose their central contracts due to skipping domestic cricket. While Ishan Kishan’s international career has stalled, Iyer’s continued presence in India’s ODI squad makes a contract renewal likely.

The BCCI is expected to announce the revised central contracts, including the A+ category selections, shortly after the Champions Trophy concludes. Last year’s contracts included 30 players across three grades, along with additional fast-bowling contracts.
