Thu Mar 06 07:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Women’s Health: A Lifelong Journey Requiring Proactive Care

**New Delhi, [Date]** – Ahead of International Women’s Day, experts are highlighting the diverse health challenges women face across their lifespan, emphasizing the importance of proactive monitoring and early intervention. From adolescence through menopause, distinct biological changes demand tailored attention.

Adolescence brings challenges like irregular periods, heavy bleeding, hormonal imbalances leading to PCOS/PCOD and acne, and nutritional deficiencies causing anemia and weak bones, according to Dr. Kavitha Kovi, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Aster Women & Children Hospital, Bengaluru.

The reproductive years present further complexities. Dr. Nancy Nagpal, Consultant Gynaecologist at Salubritas Medcentre, notes increased risks of high-risk pregnancies, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, postpartum depression, and breast issues. Dr. Kovi adds that irregular menstrual cycles during this period can contribute to long-term health problems such as osteoporosis, hypertension, high cholesterol, and weight gain.

Menopause, marked by the cessation of menstruation, introduces a new set of concerns. The decline in estrogen levels impacts vaginal health, cardiovascular health, cholesterol levels, cognitive function, and increases the risk of colorectal cancer, explains Dr. Nagpal. Post-menopause, women face heightened risks of fractures, mobility issues, osteoporosis, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, type 2 diabetes, and bladder control problems.

Dr. Shelly (Mittal) Mahajan, Lab Director & Clinical Lead at Mahajan Imaging Labs, stresses the importance of regular screenings at every life stage to detect potential health concerns early. She advocates for proactive health monitoring to empower women to take charge of their well-being. The message is clear: women’s health requires ongoing attention and personalized care throughout a woman’s life.
