Prasun Dey, a businessman, has confessed to murdering his wife, 14-year-old daughter, and sister-in-law in their Tangra home on February 19th.
The case came to light when Dey, along with his brother Pranay and Pranay’s son, crashed their car into a pillar in an apparent suicide attempt. Hospitalized following the incident, the brothers revealed the bodies inside their home.
Dey confessed that a crippling debt of Rs 16 crore, including significant car loan EMIs, drove the family to a desperate plan. Initially, the family of six—the two brothers, their wives, and their children—attempted a mass suicide by consuming sleeping pills mixed into rice pudding. When this failed, they formulated a new plan. Dey claims he smothered his daughter with a pillow while his wife held her feet. Following the murders, Dey and his brother attempted suicide by crashing their car. Pranay Dey remains hospitalized under police watch, and his statement is yet to be recorded.
