**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 5, 2025** – Students in Kozhikode staged protests Wednesday against the decision to permit six students accused in the murder of Mohammad Shahabas to sit for their ongoing SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) exams.
The protests, organized by the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and the Muslim Students Federation (MSF), targeted the government observation home where the accused are being held. Police detained several KSU protesters attempting to enter the facility, while MSF activists were also detained following a tense demonstration.
The latest arrest brings the total number of apprehended students to six. Shahabas, also a Class X student, died on March 1st following a clash between student groups. All six accused, including the newest suspect apprehended Tuesday, have been allowed to continue their exams.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the potential role of social media in the incident. They have reportedly contacted Meta, seeking information about a 63-member Instagram group allegedly involved in planning the clash. Authorities are examining seized mobile phones and laptops to determine the origins of viral audio clips suggesting a conspiracy. The investigation focuses on establishing whether the social media accounts used were operated by their apparent owners.
