**Alappuzha, March 3, 2025** – A one-day workshop on socio-hydrology and the sustainability of river and ecosystem health was held in Thanneermukkom, Kerala on Monday. Organized by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), the workshop focused specifically on the Kuttanad region and the Vembanad Lake ecosystem.
District Collector Alex Varghese inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of the Vembanad Lake and highlighting the challenges faced by local residents. He outlined current district administration initiatives aimed at addressing these issues.
The workshop served as a follow-up to the International Conference on River Resilience 2025 (ICRR 2025), recently held at NIT-C in collaboration with the Department of Water Management at TU Delft, Netherlands. The workshop aimed to build upon the conference’s discussions to address the urgent needs of the region’s vital ecosystem.
