Sat Mar 01 12:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Ramadan Preparations in Full Swing Amidst Rising Prices

**New Delhi, India** – With Ramadan 2025 commencing on March 2nd, Muslims across the country are preparing for the holy month. In the Jama Masjid area of Delhi, a bustling scene unfolds as crowds flock to purchase dates and vermicelli (sevaiyan), essential ingredients for Iftar meals.

While rising prices due to inflation have increased the cost of these items, the surge in demand remains undeterred. Shopkeepers report a significant increase in customers, both local and from surrounding areas. Vermicelli seller Farhan attributes the price hike to increased costs of raw materials. Dates, a crucial part of Iftar, are also experiencing high demand.

Jisan, a shopper, expressed the excitement surrounding the upcoming fast, emphasizing the joy shared by his family and children. Shopkeeper Fazle Karim noted the year-round nature of his business but confirmed a considerable increase in date demand, partly attributed to a growing preference for dates over sweets due to health concerns. The increased demand, however, has naturally led to higher prices for dates, which are primarily imported from the Gulf countries. Despite the inflationary pressures, the spirit of Ramadan preparations remains strong amongst the community.
