HYDERABAD, March 1, 2025 – The National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) commenced its 30th anniversary convention in Hyderabad today. Nearly 800 participants, including grassroots workers, leaders, and advocates, are attending the four-day event.

The convention, held at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally, focuses on the theme “Defending Democracy: Constitutional Justice to Climate Justice.” Discussions will cover a wide range of issues, including agrarian struggles, urban challenges, environmental concerns, communal harmony, and the rights of marginalized communities.

The NAPM, an umbrella organization representing numerous people’s movements across India, highlighted its three decades of activism in areas such as land rights, forest rights, water rights, and anti-displacement campaigns. The organization credits its work with helping uphold the Constitution’s principles and spirit. Notable past campaigns include the Narmada Bachao Andolan and the anti-mining movement in Niyamgiri. The NAPM also played a significant role in the enactment and implementation of several key laws, including the Forest Rights Act and the Right to Information Act.

The NAPM’s diverse network includes the River Valleys Forum, National Alliance of Agrarian Communities, and several other alliances focused on various social justice issues. The convention aims to chart the future course of action for achieving a more equitable and just society.
