**Tiruvarur, March 1, 2025** – The Tiruvarur Varthagargal Pathukappu Sangam has appealed to District Collector V. Mohanachandran to implement a buy-back scheme for single-use plastic water bottles to protect agricultural lands. The group argues that discarded bottles are harming farming operations. Their proposal mirrors the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation’s (Tasmac) successful liquor bottle buy-back program, which offers a ₹10 refund for returned bottles. The Sangam also requested increased wages for agricultural workers and the clearance of encroachments on irrigation channels.
