**Mangaluru, February 26, 2025** – Two passenger train services between Mangaluru Central and Kabaka Puttur will be extended to Subrahmanya Road (SBHR), the Railway Ministry announced yesterday. This decision follows years of lobbying by local representatives and residents.
Currently, two trains run between Mangaluru Central and Kabaka Puttur. The extension will see these services, along with an existing Mangaluru Central-SBHR service, reach Subrahmanya Road. The revised schedule includes earlier departure times from Mangaluru and additional stops at Bajakare, Kodiambala, Yedamangala, Kaniyur, Narimogaru, Kabaka Puttur, Neralakatte, Bantwal, and Mangaluru Junction.
Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, who spearheaded the campaign for the extension, expressed his delight at the Ministry’s decision, crediting his persistent efforts over the past two decades. He thanked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State V. Somanna for their support. Chowta highlighted the benefit to commuters, students, workers, and pilgrims visiting Kukke Subrahmanya.
G. Hanumanth Kamath, president of the Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivriddhi Samithi, also welcomed the news, acknowledging the contributions of Captain Chowta and former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. The Southern and South Western Railways have been instructed to implement the extension swiftly.
