Wed Feb 26 09:48:59 UTC 2025: ## Massive Fire Engulfs Surat Textile Market for Second Time in 24 Hours

**Surat, Gujarat, February 26, 2025** – A devastating fire ripped through a four-story textile market in Surat city for the second time in less than 24 hours on Wednesday morning. While no casualties have been reported in this latest blaze, over 800 shops have been damaged. The fire, which appears to have started on the top floor due to a suspected short circuit, is currently being battled by more than 30 fire tenders and numerous personnel. Thick plumes of smoke were visible across the city.

This incident follows a Tuesday afternoon fire in the building’s basement, which resulted in one fatality from asphyxiation. That fire, which involved textile stock, was extinguished after several hours.

Kailash Hakim, President of the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA), described the situation as “serious” and “grave,” highlighting the ongoing efforts of fire department, police, and FOSTTA teams to contain the blaze. He expressed hope for a swift resolution. The cause of the Wednesday morning fire is still under investigation.
