Sun Feb 23 01:23:36 UTC 2025: **Bivol Beats Beterbiev in Split Decision to Claim Undisputed Light-Heavyweight Title**
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Dmitry Bivol has claimed the undisputed light-heavyweight world title after a hard-fought split-decision victory over Artur Beterbiev in a rematch in Riyadh. The judges’ scores were 114-114, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Bivol, avenging his previous defeat to Beterbiev last October.
While the first fight also ended in a split decision for Beterbiev, this time Bivol displayed greater determination and tactical prowess, consistently pressuring his opponent throughout the twelve rounds. Despite a cut above his left eye in the later rounds, Bivol controlled much of the fight with superior combinations and movement.
Beterbiev, while showing his characteristic power, could not quite overcome Bivol’s improved performance. The result leaves the door open for a highly anticipated third bout between the two rivals, a possibility both fighters have acknowledged. Beterbiev, visibly disappointed, stated his intention for a rematch, while Bivol expressed a need for rest before considering another fight.
The undercard saw Shakur Stevenson successfully defend his WBC lightweight title with a ninth-round stoppage of late replacement Josh Padley. Joseph Parker also secured a victory, stopping Martin Bakole in the second round of their WBO Interim heavyweight bout.
