**Mulhouse, France** – A stabbing attack in Mulhouse, eastern France, has left one civilian dead and three police officers injured, with French President Emmanuel Macron classifying the incident as “Islamist terrorism.” The attack occurred Saturday afternoon during a demonstration in support of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The alleged perpetrator, a 37-year-old Algerian man identified only as being under judicial supervision and house arrest with an expulsion order from France, was apprehended by police. He was on a terror prevention watchlist (FSPRT) established after the 2015 Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher attacks. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed that the suspect had a history of psychiatric problems and that Algeria had refused multiple requests to repatriate him.
The attacker reportedly stabbed a passerby who attempted to intervene, resulting in their death. Three police officers sustained serious injuries while responding to the incident. The national anti-terror prosecutors unit (PNAT) has taken charge of the investigation, focusing on charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise.
