Bengaluru, February 21, 2025 – The screening committee for the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Vice-Chancellor position has recommended three candidates: Dr. Bhagavan B.C., Principal of Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS); Dr. Ravikumar B.C., Principal of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences; and Dr. Nalini G.K., Professor & Head of Pharmacology at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College. The decision, made on February 18th, has been submitted to the State government.
The nomination of Dr. Bhagavan B.C. is particularly controversial. If appointed, he would be the first Vice-Chancellor from a private medical college, a departure from the tradition of appointing individuals from government institutions. This has drawn criticism from prominent figures in medical education. Further complicating the situation, Dr. Ravikumar B.C. is currently under investigation for alleged corruption. The Governor will ultimately make the final decision.
