CHENNAI, February 20, 2025 – Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) MLA S.S. Balaji and five other party members have been acquitted in a criminal case stemming from an unauthorized protest in 2018. The protest, held near the Anna Statue on Anna Salai, condemned attacks against Dalits and demanded compensation for victims as per Supreme Court orders.

The Triplicane police charged Mr. Balaji, then VCK deputy general secretary, and others with unlawful assembly, rioting, and obstructing public servants. However, a special court judge, G. Jayavel, ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the charges, leading to their acquittal. The judgment was delivered on Thursday, February 20th, 2025.
