Wed Feb 19 15:23:05 UTC 2025: ## BJP Elects Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s New Chief Minister

**New Delhi, [Date]:** After a day of intense speculation and meetings, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has elected Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The decision was announced following a meeting of the BJP legislature party, attended by central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar. The observers met individually with each MLA before making the announcement.

The meeting, initially open to the media, was closed to the press shortly after its commencement. While the final announcement was delayed until after an address by Mr. Prasad, the selection of Ms. Gupta was widely anticipated.

The BJP is reportedly considering a “three-plus” formula for the new government, including a Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Speaker. While Ms. Gupta is set to be Chief Minister, names like Pravesh Verma for Deputy Chief Minister and Vijender Gupta for Speaker are circulating.

The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, will reportedly include the Chief Minister and six ministers, although their identities remain undisclosed. Several prominent BJP MLAs, including Manoj Tiwari and Shikha Roy, were seen arriving at the BJP office earlier in the day.

The BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5th, marking their return to power after 27 years, has led to extensive preparations for the upcoming government formation. Invitations to the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for 12 pm on Thursday, have been issued. Key figures such as Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi, from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have also received invitations. The BJP is also reportedly extending invitations to a wide range of Delhi residents, including cab and auto drivers, and those living in slums. The party’s selection of Ms. Gupta signals a significant development in Delhi’s political landscape.
