Thu Feb 13 02:24:31 UTC 2025: ## Bumrah Ruled Out of 2025 Champions Trophy Due to Back Injury
**New Delhi** – Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a persistent lower back injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Tuesday. The injury was sustained during the recent India vs. Australia Test series in Sydney.
While the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru declared Bumrah medically fit after rehabilitation, concerns remained regarding his bowling fitness for a tournament of the Champions Trophy’s magnitude. The final decision rested with the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Bumrah’s absence, stating that while his absence is a significant blow, it presents an opportunity for rising stars Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh. Rana has been named as Bumrah’s replacement in the squad.
The BCCI also announced that spinner Varun Chakaravarthy will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad. Jaiswal, along with Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube, will serve as non-travelling substitutes.
The updated Indian squad for the Champions Trophy is: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, and Varun Chakaravarthy.
