Wed Feb 12 16:24:30 UTC 2025: ## Shab-e-Barat 2025 Observed on February 13th: A Night of Forgiveness and Prayer

**NEW DELHI, February 12, 2025** – Muslims across the country observed Shab-e-Barat, also known as Nisf Shaban, on February 13th, 2025. This significant Islamic holiday, falling on the 14th night of the 8th month of the Islamic calendar (Shaban), is a night of prayer, reflection, and seeking forgiveness.

The night, which begins at sunset and ends at Fajr (dawn), is considered highly auspicious. Many Muslims spend the night in prayer, seeking Allah’s forgiveness for past sins and making supplications for the future. Mosques see increased attendance, and many attend special prayers.

Traditions associated with Shab-e-Barat include visiting graveyards to pray for deceased ancestors, offering charity to the needy, and making promises to abstain from wrongdoing. Families often prepare special meals and wear new clothes to mark the occasion. Some also observe a fast on this day.

There was some confusion surrounding the exact date this year; however, the 13th of February was widely observed as Shab-e-Barat. The holiday is believed by some to mark the birth of the 12th Shia Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi. The name Shab-e-Barat literally translates to “Night of Forgiveness.”
