**Marseille, France/New Delhi, India** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a three-day visit to France Wednesday, marked by significant milestones in the India-France relationship and a poignant tribute to Indian soldiers. The visit included a joint trip with French President Emmanuel Macron to Marseille, where they paid homage at the Mazargues Cemetery to Indian soldiers who perished in World Wars I and II. PM Modi highlighted the historical significance of Marseille, noting freedom fighter Veer Savarkar’s daring escape attempt from the city in 1910.

The visit also saw the inauguration of the Indian consulate in Marseille, aiming to further strengthen people-to-people ties. PM Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in the city.

In Cadarache, Modi and Macron visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, a significant collaboration where India has contributed substantially, including providing the world’s largest refrigerator for the reactor.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the trip as exceptional, highlighting the deep personal trust between Modi and Macron. Discussions aboard the French presidential aircraft and in Marseille covered defense, space, civil nuclear cooperation, health, and people-to-people ties. A joint declaration on artificial intelligence was adopted, and the logo for the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 was launched.

Following the successful France visit, PM Modi departed for a two-day visit to the United States, where he is expected to meet President Donald Trump. The Ministry of External Affairs anticipates a joint statement at the conclusion of this US visit.
