Wed Feb 12 08:46:33 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad Potter’s Imperfect Creations Win Hearts

**HYDERABAD, INDIA (February 12, 2025)** – Nitin Soma, a Hyderabad-based potter, is captivating audiences with his unconventional clay creations. Rejecting traditional notions of perfection, Soma embraces the inherent imperfections of handmade pottery, resulting in uniquely shaped mugs, saucers, and bowls that often resemble metalwork.

Soma, who trained at Andretta Pottery in Himachal Pradesh, learned to appreciate the beauty of imperfection in handmade goods. His background in fashion design influences his work, leading him to experiment with textures and understated yet impactful colors. Many of his pieces feature words in Dakhni, the Hyderabadi dialect, adding a conversational element to his art. These phrases, such as “potta loves potti” (boy loves girl), are designed to spark conversations and celebrate inclusivity.

Soma’s work is described as an ode to nature, reflecting the fluidity and organic shapes found in the natural world. He opened his own studio, Soma Pottery, in Banjara Hills in 2023, and also teaches pottery classes, encouraging his students to embrace the process and allow the clay to surprise them. He emphasizes that pottery is not a rushed process, urging patience and attention to detail. The textures in his work, he says, are deeply influenced by childhood memories of his grandmother’s wire and leaf basket weaving.

Soma’s unique style and philosophy are quickly gaining him recognition, showcasing the beauty that can be found in imperfection.
