Wed Feb 12 11:13:49 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad Artist Rajesh Naik’s “Naik City” Solo Exhibition to Debut This Weekend

**HYDERABAD, February 12, 2025** – Rajesh Naik, a final-year Master of Fine Arts student, will showcase his unique artistic vision in his first solo exhibition, “Naik City,” opening this weekend at the State Gallery of Art in Madhapur, Hyderabad. The exhibition, running from February 14th to 23rd, features over 50 artworks.

Naik’s art is deeply personal, drawing inspiration from his childhood experiences as the son of an autorickshaw driver in Hyderabad’s Old City. He spent his youth observing street life from the driver’s seat, a perspective that profoundly shaped his artistic style. His work blends drawing, painting, stitching, and printmaking, incorporating vibrant motifs printed on rexine fabric – a material commonly found in autorickshaws.

His artistic style is a fusion of influences, including the storytelling of B.A. Reddy, the quirky drawings of Rajeshwar Rao, and the printmaking finesse of Padma Reddy, all renowned artists who mentored him. Curator Annapurna Madipadiga describes his work as a compelling narrative drawn from his unique perspective. Naik also cites the influence of Laxma Goud, crediting him with instilling discipline and dedication.

Naik’s art incorporates elements of local pop culture, including Dakhni phrases, religious imagery, movie stars, and comics, reflecting the city’s vibrant energy. The autorickshaw, a recurring motif, represents more than just a vehicle; it’s a symbol of the city’s agility and a recurring element in his narratives.

Despite facing initial family uncertainty about pursuing art, Naik supported himself by driving an autorickshaw while studying, eventually winning a State Gallery of Art contest, leading to this debut exhibition. “Naik City” promises a vibrant and insightful portrayal of Hyderabad’s street life through the eyes of a talented young artist.
