**New Delhi** – The expansion of Delhi Chief Minister’s official residence, Sheesh Mahal, could be reversed following a complaint from the BJP. The party alleges that the renovation, which involved merging four properties to create a significantly larger residence, was unauthorized and excessive.
The Rs 33.6 crore renovation of the bungalow, originally a Type 5, transformed it into a Type 8 residence reserved for senior cabinet ministers. The BJP claims the expansion involved illegally annexing neighboring government properties and resulted in a lavish complex exceeding 50,000 square meters, featuring extravagant amenities such as a jacuzzi.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has written to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena requesting the cancellation of the property amalgamation. The BJP has already stated that the incoming Chief Minister will not reside in the bungalow and suggests converting it into a museum.
The expanded residence served as the official residence of Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister, from 2015 until his recent resignation. The Lieutenant Governor will make a final decision on the future use of the bungalow. The controversy surrounding Sheesh Mahal played a significant role in the recent change in Delhi’s political landscape, contributing to the end of the Aam Aadmi Party’s ten-year rule.
