Wed Feb 12 09:32:38 UTC 2025: **Delhi Court Convicts Sajjan Kumar in 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case**

NEW DELHI, Feb 12, 2025 – A Delhi court today convicted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in connection with the murders of two Sikhs during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja delivered the verdict, finding Kumar guilty in the case related to the killings of Jaswant Singh and his son, Tarundeep Singh, in the Saraswati Vihar area on November 1, 1984.

The case, initially registered by Punjabi Bagh police station, was later taken over by a special investigation team. The prosecution argued that Kumar led a large mob armed with deadly weapons that engaged in widespread looting, arson, and destruction of Sikh properties in retaliation for the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The mob attacked the Singh family home, killing Jaswant and Tarundeep and setting the house ablaze.

The court, in its order, found sufficient evidence to establish Kumar’s participation in and leadership of the mob. Sentencing arguments are scheduled for February 18th. Kumar was present in court for the verdict, having been brought from Tihar jail. This conviction marks a significant development in the long-running legal battle surrounding the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
