**SEOUL, South Korea (Feb 11, 2024)** – Heavy snow and rain are forecast across most of South Korea on Wednesday, February 12th, coinciding with Jeongwol Daeboreum (the first full moon of the lunar year). The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued a heavy snowfall warning for Jeolla, Gyeongsang, Gyeonggi, and Chungcheong provinces, anticipating snowfall of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour in these areas.

In response, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety activated the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) at Level 1 at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, raising the snow hazard alert level from “watch” to “warning.”

Expected snowfall ranges from 3 to 8 centimeters in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, northern and central Chungcheongbuk-do, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, and northeastern inland and mountainous areas of Gyeongsangbuk-do. Lighter snowfall of 1 to 5 centimeters is predicted for other regions including Daejeon, Sejong, and parts of Chungcheongnam-do and Jeollabuk-do.

The KMA warned of icy roads and black ice in areas with heavy snowfall, urging drivers to exercise caution. Rainfall is also expected, with varying amounts predicted across the country. Temperatures are expected to range from -4 to 6 degrees Celsius in the morning and 2 to 12 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. Air quality is forecast to be “poor” in Seoul and Incheon, and “good” in other areas.
