**Monroe, LA** – Get ready for lift-off! The Krewe de Riviere parade, boasting a spectacular “Out of This World” theme, will roll through West Monroe and Monroe on Saturday, February 8th, at 5 p.m. This year’s parade promises an exciting new route, extending further down Louisville Avenue before concluding at Oliver Road in Monroe.
Over 1,500 participants will be distributing over a million throws, including light-up toys, stuffed animals, moon pies, and of course, plenty of beads. Elaborate floats, newly constructed for this year’s theme, will feature depictions of aliens, Men in Black, the Star Wars Cantina, and scenes from The Jetsons.
This year’s Grand Marshal is the Monroe Moccasins hockey team, who will ride in their own float and toss special hockey-themed beads. The renowned Grambling State University Band will precede the King’s float, while the Louisiana LunaChicks will lead the Queen’s.
King Kris Kelley and Queen Kiama Johnson recently showcased some of the parade’s exciting throws. The Krewe de Riviere is also expanding its community impact, planning to transform a former bakery building into a community center offering after-school music and art lessons.
The Krewe encourages everyone to participate in the festivities and share their Mardi Gras memories. Don’t miss this intergalactic celebration!
