**Chennai, February 10, 2025** – A 50-year-old retired army colonel, J.J. Johnson Thomas, died suddenly while playing badminton on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at a military ground near the Monroe Statue on Anna Salai.
According to Triplicane police, Colonel Thomas, who worked in the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme section of the Secretariat and resided at the Officers’ Enclave in Island Grounds, collapsed while drinking water after a game. His friends immediately rushed him to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled, and Triplicane police have launched an investigation into the cause of death.
