NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — Jacqueline Ma, a former sixth-grade teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary School and recipient of the 2022 San Diego County Teacher of the Year award, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to multiple felony charges involving sexual misconduct with two underage students.

The San Diego County District Attorney’s office confirmed that Ma admitted to oral copulation and sexual intercourse with one minor and to causing another student to touch themselves. She also confessed to possessing child pornography. The crimes involved students who were under her care at the time.

Ma’s actions stand in stark contrast to the glowing praise she received last year. At the time of the award, her principal lauded her dedication and positive impact on students. However, the District Attorney’s office revealed that Ma engaged in inappropriate messaging and photo exchanges with the victims, and on one occasion, removed her shirt during a private meeting with a student in her classroom.

Ma faces a potential sentence of 30 years to life in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 9th. The revelation has sent shockwaves through the community and the educational system.
