**Bijapur, Chhattisgarh –** A major encounter between security forces and Maoist rebels in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district resulted in the deaths of 31 Maoists, police announced today. The gunfight, which took place deep within the Indravati National Park, also claimed the lives of two security personnel, while two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The clash involved a joint team from the District Reserve Group, Special Task Force, and Bastar Fighter Force. Following the encounter, authorities recovered a significant cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, Self Loading Rifles, INSAS rifles, grenade launchers, and explosives. The identities of the deceased Maoists are currently being confirmed. A search operation is underway, with additional forces deployed to the area.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a post on X, hailed the operation as a major success in the ongoing effort to eliminate Naxalism. He reiterated his commitment to eradicating Maoist insurgency by March 31, 2026, and offered condolences to the families of the fallen security personnel. This year alone, 49 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh, with 33 of those deaths occurring in the Bastar division. This follows a January incident where eight District Reserve Guard personnel and their driver were killed by a Maoist landmine.
