Wed Feb 05 20:11:16 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections: 60.39% Turnout Recorded, Exit Polls Predict BJP Win

**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – Delhi concluded its Assembly elections today with a voter turnout of 60.39% by closing time, a figure expected to rise slightly as final tallies are compiled. Over 1.56 crore voters chose from 699 candidates vying for 70 constituencies across 13,766 polling stations. This single-phase election saw participation lower than the 62.59% recorded in 2020 and significantly below the 67.47% turnout in 2015. Turnout varied considerably across constituencies, with Mustafabad reporting the highest at 69% and Mehrauli the lowest at 53.04%.

The election pitted the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), seeking a third consecutive term, against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress. Exit polls suggest a BJP victory, although the AAP has dismissed these predictions. High-profile contests included the New Delhi constituency, where AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal faced BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit; and Jangpura, where AAP’s Manish Sisodia’s seat was contested by BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress’s Farhad Suri. Chief Minister Atishi defended her Kalkaji seat against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba.

Over 30,000 Delhi police personnel and 200 paramilitary teams ensured smooth voting, despite some minor complaints of Model Code of Conduct violations, which were reportedly resolved without police intervention. Prominent figures including President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jaideep Dhankhar, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Kumar, and Congress leaders Rahul, Priyanka, and Sonia Gandhi all cast their votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to participate in the “festival of democracy” via a social media post. Extensive arrangements, including refreshments at polling stations, were made to facilitate voter participation. Party workers and resident welfare associations actively encouraged voting through door-to-door campaigning and WhatsApp messages. The final results will shape Delhi’s political landscape for the next five years.
