**Mumbai, Feb 4, 2025** – Indian T20 wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has been ruled out for five to six weeks after fracturing a finger during the fifth T20I against England on Sunday. The injury occurred when a delivery from England pacer Jofra Archer struck Samson’s right index finger. Scans confirmed the fracture, forcing Samson to withdraw from the field.
He has since returned to his hometown of Thiruvananthapuram and will soon travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. The injury will sideline him from the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals, starting February 8th.
Samson’s performance in the recently concluded T20I series against England was underwhelming, scoring only 51 runs in five matches. He struggled against short-pitched bowling from Archer, Wood, and Sakib, often falling in the powerplay.
His absence leaves a gap in the Indian team, especially considering his exclusion from the upcoming ODI series against England. His return to competitive cricket is likely to be delayed until at least the Bangladesh series in August.
India won the T20I series 4-1 under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy. A new-look ODI squad, captained by Rohit Sharma, will face England in a three-match series starting February 6th. This series serves as a crucial preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
