Vijayawada, February 4, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Human Resources Development (HRD), N. Lokesh, has pledged to revamp the state’s education system and create more job opportunities, particularly abroad. Following meetings with representatives from private schools, colleges, and vocational institutions, Mr. Lokesh announced several key initiatives.
The minister highlighted a government plan to place 500,000 skilled workers overseas within the next five years through the Overseas Manpower Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (OMCAP). He cited the success of a pilot program where 150 individuals, trained by the TDP’s central office, secured jobs in the U.S. This program will be expanded to upskill more youth.
Addressing concerns raised by private institutions, Mr. Lokesh promised several changes. College affiliations will be extended to five years instead of the current annual renewal. Private school recognition validity will be increased from eight to ten years. The government will also address issues related to tuition fee reimbursements and college transfer penalties. Monthly meetings will be held with higher education officials to facilitate quicker solutions to problems faced by colleges. Private Intermediate colleges will be given representation on the Intermediate Board Committee.
MLCs P. Ashok Babu, K. Srikanth, B. Ramgopal Reddy, and V. Chiranjeevi were present at the meetings. The initiatives aim to improve the state’s education infrastructure and prepare its workforce for both domestic and international job markets.
