Tue Feb 04 13:22:43 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) Leader Walks Back AI Socialism Claim, Warns of Job Losses
**Thodupuzha, Kerala –** CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan reversed his previous statement endorsing artificial intelligence (AI) as a pathway to socialism. Speaking at the party’s Idukki district conference on Tuesday, he warned that AI’s unchecked growth would exacerbate wealth inequality and lead to widespread unemployment. He cited the disparity in wealth distribution in Kerala, where 10% of the population holds 87% of the wealth, as an example of the potential for AI to worsen existing inequalities. Govindan maintained, however, that he had not changed his overall stance on AI.
Govindan also criticized the Union Budget’s low allocation for Kerala, urging collective action to pressure the central government for increased funding. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to continuing its development initiatives despite the shortfall.
The three-day Idukki district conference, attended by 358 members, continues through Thursday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the public meeting on the final day.
