Mon Feb 03 12:43:00 UTC 2025: ## KSRTC’s Mysuru Bus Stand Relocation Plan Faces Opposition
**Mysuru, February 3, 2025** – The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) proposal to relocate Mysuru’s central bus stand from its current city-center location to Bannimantap has sparked significant controversy. While KSRTC cites the need for a new facility, several NGOs, including the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP), and community groups strongly oppose the plan, arguing it’s a short-sighted solution that fails to address the city’s long-term traffic and environmental concerns.
Critics contend that moving the bus stand within the city limits, to Bannimantap, merely shifts the traffic congestion problem, not solves it. They advocate for a location outside the Outer Ring Road (ORR), emphasizing that this would keep long-distance and intra-district buses out of the city center, thus reducing congestion and pollution. Furthermore, they argue that an ORR location would improve connectivity to surrounding areas, boosting efficiency for both passengers and goods transport.
A proposal to locate the new bus stand near People’s Park or the government guest house has been dismissed as impractical and environmentally damaging, potentially encroaching on valuable green spaces.
The NGOs urge authorities to prioritize long-term urban planning and sustainability, arguing that the KSRTC’s Bannimantap plan offers only a temporary fix and fails to address the city’s broader infrastructural needs. The debate continues as stakeholders push for a solution that prioritizes sustainable urban development.
