Mon Feb 03 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Warmer February Predicted for Much of US, But Late-Month Cold Snap Possible
**Atlanta, GA** – Following a brutally cold January, the US is expected to experience a significantly warmer February, at least initially, according to a new forecast from The Weather Company and Atmospheric G2. Most of the East and South are predicted to see above-average temperatures, particularly from the mid-Atlantic and Southeast to coastal and southern Texas. However, the Northwest, Northern Rockies, and Northern Plains are expected to remain colder than average.
This warmer trend, however, may be short-lived. Computer models suggest a potential shift mid-month, with a Greenland high-pressure system (“Greenland block”) potentially forcing a southward dip in the jet stream, bringing a prolonged cold spell to the eastern US. Simultaneously, a shift in the Pacific-North American pattern could create another high-pressure system off the West Coast, leading to a scenario of warm temperatures in the West and cold temperatures in the East and South during the latter half of February.
January 2024, in stark contrast, was declared America’s coldest January since 2014 by Atmospheric G2’s Todd Crawford, featuring four major winter storms in less than three weeks.
The Weather Company advises those in the East and South to enjoy the warmer temperatures early in the month, as a significant cold snap remains a possibility later in February. The company encourages readers to sign up for their Morning Brief email newsletter for daily updates.
