Tue Jan 21 20:29:04 UTC 2025: ## China Urges Strategic, Long-Term Approach to India Ties

**Beijing, January 22, 2025** – China’s Foreign Ministry has called for a strategic and long-term perspective in managing bilateral relations with India, echoing recent comments by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Following Jaishankar’s assertion that the relationship needs to disentangle itself from post-2020 border complexities, Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized the need to return ties to “healthy and stable development.”

Guo stated that both nations, as major developing economies and ancient civilizations, should prioritize cooperation and development, serving the interests of their combined 2.8 billion people. He highlighted the importance of implementing the agreements reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan, including the understanding that both countries are development opportunities, not threats, and cooperation partners, not competitors.

Jaishankar, in a recent lecture, acknowledged past policy misreadings in India’s dealings with China and stressed the need for mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity in shaping the future of the relationship. Guo’s statement supports this sentiment, advocating for adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and collaborative efforts in global affairs to promote multilateralism and a more equitable world order. Both sides, he reiterated, should contribute to global peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
