Sun Jan 19 14:45:45 UTC 2025: ## Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Workers Reject Govt. Bailout as Insufficient

**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh –** The Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee (VUPPC), a group representing Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) workers, has rejected the recent ₹11,440 crore government bailout package as inadequate. While acknowledging the package as a result of their four-year protest against privatization, the VUPPC insists that only permanent solutions, such as merging VSP with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and providing captive mines, will address the plant’s long-term issues.

The committee, which postponed a planned Republic Day protest against privatization, plans to meet with local MLAs and MPs to advocate for these permanent solutions. VUPPC leaders argue that the bailout barely covers the plant’s existing ₹8,900 crore overdraft, leaving critical long-term problems unresolved. They called recent celebrations over the package premature and urged trade union activists not to accept it as a sufficient solution. The committee will announce its next course of action next week.
