Fri Jan 17 15:59:29 UTC 2025: ## India Streamlines Local Cable Operator Registration
**NEW DELHI, January 18, 2025** – The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced a significant overhaul of the Local Cable Operator (LCO) registration process, moving it entirely online. The change, effective immediately, aims to simplify and expedite the registration procedure for LCOs across the country.
Previously, LCOs had to register offline through local head post offices, a process deemed cumbersome and time-consuming by the Ministry. The new online system, accessible through the Ministry’s Broadcast Seva Portal, will allow for real-time processing and issuance of certificates upon verification of applicant details, including Aadhaar, PAN, CIN, and DIN numbers.
Key features of the amended rules include:
* **Online Registration:** All new and renewal applications must be submitted online.
* **National Validity:** Registration will be valid nationwide, unlike the previous regionally-limited permits.
* **Five-Year Validity:** Registrations will be granted for five-year periods, with a ₹5,000 processing fee.
* **Renewal Deadline:** Renewal applications must be submitted at least 90 days before expiry.
* **Appeals Process:** An appeals process has been introduced for denied registrations or renewals, allowing LCOs to appeal to the Appellate Authority within 30 days.
The Ministry urged LCOs with pending applications at post offices to withdraw them and re-apply through the new online portal. Helpline information is available on the portal and via email at lco.das[at]gov[dot]in. This move is expected to significantly streamline the cable television industry in India.
