Fri Jan 17 16:44:13 UTC 2025: ## BC Leaders Demand Review Petition for 42% Reservation in Telangana Local Bodies

**Hyderabad, January 17, 2025** – Backward Classes (BC) leaders in Telangana have demanded that the state government file a review petition in the Supreme Court to uphold the 42% reservation for BCs in local bodies, as promised in the Kamareddy BC Declaration. A conference of BC intellectuals held in Hyderabad on Friday saw speakers express concerns over the current situation and vow to intensify their movement until adequate political representation is achieved.

Rajya Sabha member and president of the National BC Welfare Association, R. Krishnaiah, warned that if the government fails to fulfill its promise, BCs will pursue relentless efforts to secure their rights. The conference emphasized the need to present their case before a larger Supreme Court bench and utilize data from the recent social and economic caste survey to support their claim.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, S. Madhusudana Chari, stressed the government’s responsibility to ensure proportional benefits for all sections of society. Former BC Commission chairman Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao added that sub-categorization of BCs, as also promised by the government, is crucial and should be pursued legally using the caste survey data. The leaders’ collective message was clear: the fight for 42% reservation will continue until justice is served.
