Fri Jan 17 22:27:48 UTC 2025: ## Millions Take Holy Dip at Maha Kumbh Mela Amidst Tight Security

**Prayagraj, India** – Over seven crore (70 million) devotees have already participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, India, just six days into the event, according to Uttar Pradesh government officials. The government anticipates a total attendance of over 45 crore (450 million) people throughout the festival.

This massive influx presents significant security challenges. However, an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) equipped with 2,750 cameras is playing a crucial role in crowd management and surveillance. The cameras monitor the entire fairground and city, providing three levels of surveillance: security, crowd management, and crime prevention.

Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar explained that the ICCC uses the camera network to track crowd flow, identify congestion points, and direct devotees to less crowded areas. The system also monitors for fire hazards and manages parking, directing vehicles to available lots to minimize walking distances for bathers. Seven main routes connecting Prayagraj to other cities have been considered in the parking arrangements. While AI-powered cameras assist in decision-making, they are not solely relied upon, Kumar added. The ICCC proved particularly valuable during the initial days’ high-volume events, such as Paush Purnima Snan and Amrit Snan.

Separately, a Lucknow court sentenced a couple to death for the 2020 murder of six family members. Ajay Singh (55) and Rupa Singh (50) were convicted for the deaths of Singh’s parents, brother, sister-in-law, and their two minor children.
