Fri Jan 17 12:03:22 UTC 2025: **ISRO Achieves Historic Space Docking, Paving Way for Future Missions**

New Delhi, Jan 17 – India has joined an elite group of spacefaring nations after the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX). The experiment, utilizing the indigenously developed Bharatiya Docking System, marks a significant milestone for future ambitious projects.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, lauded ISRO’s achievement, highlighting its importance for missions like the Bhartiya Antriksh Station (Indian Space Station), Chandrayaan-4, and Gaganyaan. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued support for ISRO’s success.

The SpaDeX mission, launched on December 30, 2024, involved the precise docking of two satellites. After a successful trial run on January 12, the final docking was completed on January 17th, with ISRO confirming the successful capture, retraction, and rigidisation of the spacecraft. Post-docking, control of the satellites as a single unit was also successfully demonstrated. Further tests, including undocking and power transfer checks, are planned.

With this achievement, India becomes the fourth country, after the United States, Russia, and China, to successfully demonstrate autonomous space docking technology. This technological leap significantly enhances India’s capabilities in space exploration and strengthens its position in the global space community.
