Fri Jan 17 15:40:00 UTC 2025: **Baltimore Area Hit by Brief Snow Showers, Arctic Blast on the Way**
BALTIMORE, MD – A brief period of light snow showers impacted the Baltimore area Thursday evening, resulting in a dusting to half an inch of accumulation in most locations, with up to an inch reported in northern and western counties. The snow, which began around 6 p.m., ended by 10 p.m. Thursday was declared an “Impact Weather Day” by WBAL-TV.
School districts in Baltimore, Cecil, and Harford counties canceled after-school and evening activities due to the weather.
While skies cleared overnight, frigid temperatures are expected to descend upon the region. Friday will see a temporary warm-up into the 40s, but another chance of snow is forecast for Sunday night. A much more significant cold snap is expected to arrive early next week, with temperatures plummeting into the low 20s and even teens, accompanied by dangerous wind chills dipping into the single digits. This arctic blast is expected to last through Wednesday.
Residents are urged to prepare for these dangerously cold conditions, particularly by bundling up children heading to school. WBAL-TV advises downloading their app for weather alerts and monitoring the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio. BGE also reminds residents to report power outages via their website or by phone at 877-778-2222 and to never approach fallen power lines.
