**Madurai, January 17, 2025** – Astro, a ten-year-old Labrador Retriever and valued member of the Madurai Central Prison’s sniffer dog squad, passed away on Friday. The dedicated canine, who held the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was given full police honours at his burial on the prison grounds.
Astro served for years, playing a crucial role in locating drug peddlers throughout Madurai city. His work included regular inspections of the prison campus to detect narcotics. Police personnel paid their respects with a gun salute before the burial ceremony.
