**Mumbai, India** – Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering after a terrifying home invasion and stabbing incident at his Bandra residence early yesterday morning. New CCTV footage has emerged showing the assailant’s movements, shedding light on the events leading up to and following the attack.
The footage, time-stamped 1:37 am, shows a masked individual cautiously climbing the stairs to Khan’s 12-story building, carrying a bag. Further footage from the sixth floor depicts the intruder fleeing the scene via the stairs after the attack. Police suspect he may have then escaped using the building’s fire shaft. The intruder was not seen in the lobby’s CCTV footage, suggesting he scaled the wall of an adjacent building to gain access and exit.
Khan’s nanny first encountered the intruder in the room of the actor’s younger son, Jeh. Although she confronted him, she was unable to stop him. Another house help alerted Khan, who then engaged in a struggle with the assailant, resulting in six stab wounds, including one to his neck and another near his spine.
Khan was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent surgery. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, stated that Khan is recovering well and has been moved out of the ICU. He emphasized that a 2mm deeper penetration of the knife would have resulted in far more serious injuries.
Police have registered a case of robbery, trespassing, and causing grievous hurt. The incident has raised concerns about security in the upscale Bandra neighborhood and sparked criticism from the opposition regarding the city’s law and order situation. Police are investigating reports that the assailant was seen near Bandra railway station after the attack and suspect he may have changed clothes to evade capture.
