Fri Jan 17 13:28:27 UTC 2025: ## Arunachal Pradesh Police Offer Amnesty to New Rebel Group

**GUWAHATI, January 17, 2025** – The Arunachal Pradesh police have issued an amnesty offer to members of the newly formed United Tani Army (UTA), a militant group opposing mega-dam construction and the granting of Scheduled Tribe certificates to non-native tribal people. The police guarantee no legal action will be taken against those who voluntarily surrender.

The UTA, formed in December 2024 and led by former extremist leader Anthony Doke, also seeks the expulsion of Chakma-Hajong refugees from the state. Police investigations, following the arrest of a recruiter, Tana Hasi, in Itanagar on January 15th, have revealed the group’s recruitment efforts targeting youth through social media and local networks. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa stated that the UTA is training recruits for subversive activities.

The police appeal directly to UTA members, urging them to return to their families and communities, offering support for reintegration. Authorities are also warning parents to be vigilant and protect their children from the group’s influence. The police remain committed to dismantling the UTA’s recruitment network and maintaining peace within the state. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities.
