**Mangaluru, January 17, 2025** – A brazen daylight robbery took place today in Mangaluru, Karnataka, leaving authorities scrambling to apprehend the culprits. A group of five armed men, described as being between 25 and 35 years old and speaking Hindi, stormed the Kotekar Vyavasaya Seva Sahakari Sangh, a cooperative society near Ullal. The robbery occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was in the city for another event.
The gang, wearing masks and armed with a pistol, sword, and knife, forced employees to open the vault, making off with gold jewelry and other valuables estimated to be worth over ₹10 crore. They escaped in a black Fiat car. Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed the incident and stated that multiple teams are investigating. The lack of security personnel at the cooperative society during the robbery is under scrutiny.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, after meeting with police officials including IGP (Western Range) Amith Singh and Dakshina Kannada SP N. Yatish, instructed them to swiftly apprehend the criminals. U.T. Khader, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Mangaluru MLA, also visited the scene. A detailed assessment of the stolen items is underway.
