Fri Jan 17 03:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Nylander’s Overtime Heroics Lift Maple Leafs Past Devils

**Toronto, ON** – William Nylander’s overtime goal secured a thrilling 4-3 victory for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the New Jersey Devils at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night. The win snapped the Devils’ recent slump, which saw them earn just one regulation victory in their last nine games.

Nylander’s game-winner came just 1:10 into the extra frame, capping off a two-goal performance for the Swedish forward, who also added an assist. Auston Matthews contributed two goals of his own, reaching the milestone of his 700th career point, thanks to an assist by Mitch Marner. Joseph Woll made 21 saves in the Leafs’ net.

The Devils, meanwhile, received a strong performance from Jack Hughes (one goal, two assists) and Nico Hischier (two power-play goals). Jacob Markstrom stopped 37 shots in a losing effort.

The game marked the return of former Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe to Scotiabank Arena as a visiting coach for the first time since his dismissal in the spring. The Leafs also welcomed back defenseman Jake McCabe, who missed four games with an upper-body injury. McCabe contributed two assists in his return.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday; the Devils hosting the Philadelphia Flyers and the Maple Leafs facing off against the Montreal Canadiens.
